L'Italia U18 femminile di Marco Mencarelli ha raggiunto le semifinali del Mondiale di categoria.

Grandi impresa per Piani e compagne che nei quarti hanno battuto 3-1 (22-25 25-18 25-19 25-17) la Serbia vice-campione d'Europa.
Al termine di una gara eccellente, davvero dominata eccezion fatta per uno sbandamento nel finale del primo set quando in vantaggio 20-15 le azzurrine si sono fatte rimontare e superare, da una avversaria giunta in Perù per puntare direttamente alla zona medaglie.

Quello contro le serbe è stato il primo set perduto dall'Italia. davvero eccezionale la prestazione di Paola Egonu 21 punti in attacco, 5 a muro, 2 al servizio, ma sarebbe ingeneroso trascurare le grandi prove offerte da tutte le componenti la squadra: la regista Orro, l'opposto Piani, i centrali Lubian e Mazzaro, il martello Melli, più Provaroni, Pamio e Mancini partite in panchina e fattesi trovare pronte nel momento del bisogno.
Come sempre preziosa il libero Zannoni.

Davvero una bella Italia che continua a convincere ed ha ribadire sul campo quel motto che si è scritto sulle braccia: "Noi siamo Noi".

In semifinale la squadra di Mencarelli troverà la Turchia che ha superato nettamente la Polonia. Il match si giocherà alle 22.30 italiane e sarà la rivincita della sfida della prima fase.

ITALY MOVE TO GOLD-MEDAL MATCH WITH USA

 

Italy booked a ticket to the title match at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-14) victory over Turkey at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Saturday night.


Italy will meet United States in the decisive match on Sunday night at 20:00 local time. The Americans had clinched their berth with a semifinal win against China.


One again Paola Egonu was the offensive leader for the Italian side with 22 points, including four aces. Vittoria Piani added 16 and Giulia Mancini contributed 11 tallies, including seven blocks.


Yasemin Ozel and Zehra Gunes each registered 12 points for Turkey while Saliha Sahin and Yasemin Guvell charted 9 points apiece.


Italy led in aces 11-7 but lost the blocking battle 14-11. The winners held the advantage in spikes 45-32.


Italy had a slow start with inconsistent plays. Turkey led 8-4 and 16-11 but Italy came back on the shoulders of Egonu. It was not enough as Turkey took the set 25-23 with the spike by Gunes.


It was the other side of the coin in the second with Italy leading 8-4 and 16-11 before Turkey closed in dangerously tying at 22-all. Italy won 25-23.


Egonu’s attacks and serves led Italy in the third set they won easily 25-18.


The fourth set was dominated by Italy from start to finish with 8-5 and 16-8 leads at the technical time-outs. The set finished 25-14 when the serve by Akyaldiz sailed long.







USA - CINA 3-1
United States defeated defending champions China 3-1 (25-18, 25-13, 27-29, 25-18) advancing to the title match at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship.

Alexis Dawn Sun was the offensive leader for USA with 23 points, including five aces and one block, while Ronika Stone played also a key role with six blocks among her 16 points. Kathryn Plummer and Rosika Stone contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the victory.

Li Yingying had a match-high 28 points in the losing cause while Qian Jingwen added 10 points.

United States held a wide difference in blocks (14-4) and aces (11-4) and also led in spikes (57-46). They scored on 20 errors by China while committing 24.
